Hi! My name is Lyn Barrett and I’m an author, speaker, retreat leader and survivor of early childhood trauma. I was diagnosed with multiple personality disorder, now known as dissociative identity disorder (DID), in 1992. I’ve done my work and am happy to say I lead a fulfilling and integrated life after several decades of inner chaos and deep pain. Thanks to a wonderful therapist, a few faithful friends, and my own dogged determination to heal, I am a whole person. I believe you have the capacity to become a whole person too, whatever that means to you.
Please use my website to your advantage! My blog is a series of reflections on DID, my memoir Crazy: Reclaiming Life from the Shadow of Traumatic Memory is an inspirational account of my journey, and my new release coming in January 2026, Healing Without Forgiving: A Hero’s Journey for Dissociative Survivors, is a map of the healing landscape for all my dissociative friends, colleagues, and peers. A part of my journey has been to gather writers with dissociative coping strategies together into a community now called Dissociative Writers, Inc. I encourage you to check us out if you’re looking for a safe space to write and share your stories.
Email me and let me know what’s going on in your life, what works and what doesn’t, and what you see for yourself in the future. If I could do it, so can you!
Lyn Barrett
PS I’m a retired elementary school teacher, school principal, and church pastor. I brought these passions to my healing and bring them now to my work as an advocate for people with DID. (Click here for a full resume.) I look forward to hearing from you. Keep the faith!
