Writing Your Memoir
Do you dream of writing your story?
Have you begun?
Are you still thinking about it?
Your story of survival is important!
Don’t put off what your heart is telling you to do today.
Wherever you are in your writing process — beginning, middle, or end — I am happy to offer two opportunities to help you bring your story to completion.
For those who would like to work in a class setting with other writers to support them and a full curriculum to guide them, consider joining our Beginners Memoir 101 Class that meets on Zoom. This class is especially helpful for those who are at the very beginning of their process and would like orientation toward the task of writing memoir. I encourage you to speak with your therapist before signing up to make sure you are ready for this challenging yet fulfilling task.
For those who would like individual help in the memoir process or in a specific part of the process, consider Memoir Coaching. In a free first session on Zoom, you can talk with me about your goals, see if you think we are a good fit, and help me plot out our work together. Individual coaching can last for one one-hour session or many one-hour sessions, but the most effective way to begin is to commit to six sessions.

We will meet virtually on Mondays for two-hours a week for eight-weeks, with a one-week break halfway through the class schedule. The first hour of each class will focus on elements of memoir writing, including: motivation and theme, truth and fact, starting and ending points, narrative arc, character development, dialogue, and emotional and practical exposure. The second hour will allow three participants to share their writing and receive support and feedback from the rest of the group. Each participant will be able to share their writing two times over the duration of the class.
The class takes place on Zoom but between-class communication occurs on Dissociative Writers’ communication platform called Heartbeat Chat. On this platform, you can access a video and articles for each class and participate in a discussion channel especially for you.
By the end of the class, you will know how to tackle your memoir at whatever stage it is in now, and you will have taken many steps toward actualizing your project. You will have a variety of resources available for you refer to as you move forward on this journey. You will also be eligible to participate in Dissociative Writers’ Memoir Alumni/ae Gathering which meets several times a year.
