Fear

This week, many people I care about are afraid.

They are afraid that their fundamental right to exist, to love whom they love, and to pursue their life dreams may be snatched away from them.

Fortunately, these are fears I don’t have to contend with, at least not yet.

Yet I know what it’s like to be afraid, to never know when the other shoe will drop, to have no one in my corner when the sh-t hits the fan. Having lived a good portion of my life in fear, I feel rage when I see others forced to live in fear because of ignorance, hatred, or just plain cruelty.

No matter what you are afraid of, I stand with you.

We all are worthy, regardless of what old tapes or new headlines tell us.

We all have the right to live without fear following us around like a dark cloud ready to pelt us with rain.

We all have the right to live in the peace and wellbeing that comes from the hard work of healing.

We all have the right to be, no matter what.

I’m not afraid for myself right now, but if you’re afraid, then I’m afraid for you.

Be well, take care, and know I am on your side.

I have learned over the years that when one's mind is made up, this diminishes fear;

knowing what must be done does away with fear.
